The evening was magical from beginning to end. mr. clinton began by thanking the foundation for the important work that we do. he stressed the point that today with the power of the internet, ordinary citizens have the means to donate sizable sums of money for a cause that they believe in. he also said he hopes to live long enough to see that no more children will ever die of aids and that cancer, the disease that took the lives of both his mother and best friend, be cured. we at the foundation have the same hopes. in honor of our recipients, a great many luminaries attended including berry gordy, founder of motown records, famed music producers jimmy jam & terry lewis, kenny gamble who along with leon huff originated the immensely successful and popular "philly soul sound", the late ed bradley, martha stewart and new york giant tiki barber. the evening's entertainment, although eclectic in terms of musical genres, was outstanding! the great mary j. blige, recently nominated for a record eight grammy nominations, performed the national anthem like it's never been sung before. multi-grammy winner sheryl crow and her band opened the show with a set that rocked the house performing some of her biggest hits including "i wanna soak up the sun". big & rich nominated for their first grammy performed the bill withers classic "lean on me" and were absolutely sensational. to end the evening, multi-talented songwriter, singer and musician john legend took the stage and was mesmerizing with his grammy nominated song "save room." our silent auction hit a record for funds raised. some of our items included: lunch with legendary music executive clive davis; lunch with buzz aldrin - one of the first men on the moon - and a bevy of signed music and sports memorabilia, fine art and amazing trips! we had a full capacity crowd that included top music and entertainment executives, artists, film and television stars along with esteemed members of the business community. a wonderful time was had by all, but more importantly, money was raised to help us in our fight against leukemia, cancer and aids. it is with this kind of on-going commitment and support that we hope to someday find a cure for these devastating diseases. our sincere thanks to all of you who participated and we hope to see you next year.
